A historical exhibition
A museum develops an exhibition about the arrival and settlement of Moluccan families in the Netherlands, and wants to explore relevant objects, photographs and documentary material.

Start with your project
You are developing an exhibition in which an object, photograph or archival item from our collection could provide historical or cultural context.
You want to include collection material in a smaller thematic presentation.
You are developing a cultural or heritage project together and want to explore whether collection material can play a role in it.
Your institution is developing a public or educational presentation where original material may add value.
Loans go to museums, heritage institutions, cultural institutions and exhibition organisations. We do not lend to private individuals.
Curatorial value
For inspiration
Four kinds of request we can imagine. None of them says that a particular object is available; that is always assessed per request.
A museum develops an exhibition about the arrival and settlement of Moluccan families in the Netherlands, and wants to explore relevant objects, photographs and documentary material.
A cultural institution creates a programme around Moluccan music and wants to investigate whether relevant historical material can be included.
A regional museum researches the history of a former residential camp or neighbourhood, and wants to connect local sources with our collection.
A maker or institution develops a project in which contemporary work is placed in dialogue with historical collection material.
Find material
A loan often begins with an object, photograph or document that connects with your project. The Online Collection is where you can find out what may be relevant.
Search the Online Collection Browse the sub-collections
You do not always have to know which item fits. If your project and your question are clear, exploring the Online Collection and the sub-collections is a good first step. A request that names a subject rather than an object is still a request we can read.
Sharpen your idea
A first request does not need every technical detail worked out. A clear reason is the most important starting point.
Broad
“We would like to borrow something for an exhibition.”
Easier to assess
“For an exhibition about [theme] at [institution], from [date] to [date], we would like to explore whether collection record [number] could be included, because it gives context about [reason].”
Start here
Bring the object or record number, the title of your exhibition or project, the venue, the dates and a short curatorial reason. That is enough for a first request.
Na je aanvraag bekijken we of het materiaal beschikbaar is en of de aanvraag verder kan. Daarna bespreken we de voorwaarden voor onder meer presentatie, transport en verzekering.
