You transfer the material to Museum Maluku. If the museum decides to accept a gift, the agreements are recorded in a deed of gift or transfer agreement. This officially transfers ownership.

What could be relevant to the collection?
We are interested in material that contributes to the story of the Moluccan community. This includes:
- Photographs and photo albums
- Letters, diaries and documents
- Artworks
- Uniforms, decorations and military objects
- Religious and cultural objects
- Musical instruments
- Clothing and textiles
- Audiovisual material
- Personal archives
- Everyday objects
- Digital files and born-digital heritage
Not sure whether something has museum value? It may still be of interest to us. The meaning and context of material are often just as important as the object itself.
The story belongs with the object
An object without context tells only part of the story. Information about provenance, use and the people involved helps us understand what the material means.
Who used or owned it, where it was kept, when, and how it came to be in your possession: it is precisely these layers that turn an object into a source. Don't know everything? Tell us what you do know, and indicate what is uncertain.

Acquisition
Museum Maluku purchases objects only in exceptional cases. This only happens when an object forms a special addition to the collection and fits within the collection and acquisition policy. In the case of a purchase, the agreements are recorded in a purchase agreement.

How do we assess an offer?
For every gift or acquisition, we consider the following points, among others. It is not a points system: each proposal is weighed on its own merits.
- Cultural-historical value what the material tells us
- Relation to Moluccan history and to the community
- Authenticity and provenance is it clear where it comes from
- Physical condition of the object
- Comparable material do we already have something similar
- Long-term management and preservation can we look after it responsibly

Please get in touch first via our form. This allows us to check in advance whether the material could be relevant, and how we can assess it safely and carefully. At this stage, please send photographs or copies, not originals.

Offer material
This form is a proposal, not a transfer. You are not transferring anything by submitting it: that only happens after assessment, and only through a deed of gift, transfer agreement or purchase agreement.

We only ask what we need to be able to assess your offer. How we handle your data is set out in our privacy policy. Proposals are not made public.

If material is accepted into the collection
If we decide to accept a gift, the agreements are recorded in a deed of gift or transfer agreement. This officially transfers ownership to Museum Maluku. In the case of a purchase, this happens through a purchase agreement.
After that, the museum takes care of registration and preservation, and presentation where possible. Being added to the collection does not mean the material will also be put on display: that is a separate, curatorial decision.
If something is not accepted
If we do not accept material, that does not mean it has no historical or personal significance. Sometimes something falls outside the collection profile, we already have comparable material, or we are unable to manage it responsibly.
We understand that material can also have personal or family significance. That is why we discuss any possible transfer carefully.

Frequently asked questions
Can I bring material by without an appointment?
Please get in touch first via the form on this page. This allows us to check in advance whether the material could be relevant and how we assess it carefully.
Do you accept all gifts?
No. Offering something does not automatically mean it will be accepted. We assess each proposal on, among other things, cultural-historical value, provenance, condition and whether we can manage it responsibly.
Does Museum Maluku also buy objects?
Only in exceptional cases, when an object forms a special addition and fits within the collection and acquisition policy. Every offer is assessed individually.
Is a donated object put on display?
Not automatically. The museum takes care of registration and preservation, and presentation where possible. What is on display is a separate curatorial choice.
Does this form already transfer ownership?
No. The form is a proposal. Ownership is only transferred through a deed of gift, transfer agreement or purchase agreement, after assessment.
Can I offer an entire family archive?
Yes, personal archives are among the material we are interested in. Describe as clearly as possible in the form what the archive contains.
What happens to my personal data?
We only ask what is needed to assess your offer, and proposals are not made public. See our privacy policy.
