On 21 March 1951, the motor vessel Kota Inten arrived in the port of Rotterdam. It was the first troop transport to bring Moluccan servicemen and their families from Indonesia to the Netherlands. Eleven troop transports followed in the months after. The last transport arrived on 21 June 1951. More than 12,500 Moluccan men, women and children made the crossing to the Netherlands. They had come from far away, and their stay was meant to be temporary. In 2021, that was exactly 70 years ago.
Moluks Historisch Museum paid tribute to 70 years of Moluccans in the Netherlands with the IKAT temporary exhibition.
