On Friday 29 September 2023, together with Moluccan Archive and Sound & Vision, we are holding a unique evening full of Moluccan audiovisual material and heritage. Under the title 'Moluccans in Sound & Vision' you dive into the history and culture of the Moluccan community. Be inspired by historical photographs from the 'Moluccan Archive' and discover the importance of personal photographic and film archives. Moluccans in Sound & Vision
This much-talked-about evening offers a deep look into the rich heritage of the Moluccan community through audiovisual material, historical photographs and personal film archives. The event is inspired by the successful initiative of Talita Talaksuru, the Moluccan student behind the Instagram account 'Moluccan Archive', where historical photographs from various collections and image banks met with particularly enthusiastic responses from the Moluccan community.
During 'Moluccans in Sound & Vision' we explore the importance of sharing personal photographic and film archives within the Moluccan community. We also show how Moluccan audiovisual material from the 1950s to the 1970s, much of it known from the Polygoon newsreels, contributed to recording the history of the community. But it does not stop there. Our evening goes further by showing that from the 1970s on, the Moluccan community also created its own images, which form a powerful narrative addition to the history.
Programme & tickets
The evening is hosted by Jefta Pattikawa (Verloren Banden). He talks with various guests about the importance of audiovisual material within the Moluccan community. And what would this evening be without actually watching Moluccan footage? Moluccans in Sound & Vision will be a unique evening full of enchanting images and stories, taking you as a visitor on a journey through the time and culture of the Moluccan community.
