We are proud to present the fifth part of the IKAT exhibition. The work of Mirjam Manusama and Ben Manusama can be seen in the museum until Sunday 22 August.
In recent years Mirjam Manusama has been able to develop and take shape not only as a fashion designer but also as a visual artist. She brings the two disciplines of fashion and art together. "I draw inspiration from life itself, with its duality, its consciousness, its humanity. I am curious to explore the unknown, the layers we consist of in body, mind and soul." Mirjam has made a new art series especially for IKAT. 'The end of a new beginning' grew out of the bond with Moluccan culture and the transformation we are experiencing. Back to the beginning; ancestral roots are the foundation of our existence.
Ben Manusama knew by the age of about six what he wanted to become. His paintings have to be connected to life. Just as a storyteller or a teacher must have something to say, something they have lived through. "I draw a lot of inspiration from our Moluccan and our related Pacific culture, in which many songs are sung. When one of them is about a rowing boat, there is a story underneath. You have to work that out for yourself."**
