Stichting Pelita X Museum Maluku
On Friday 21 February 2025, Museum Maluku and Stichting Pelita are hosting the joint Dialogue Table RE:CAST – The conversation. The Dialogue Table, a format devised by Stichting Pelita and inspired by the Keti Koti Dialogue Tables, offers a safe and inspiring setting in which to talk together and exchange experiences. Universal questions, rituals and art help make broad and sometimes complex social issues discussable.
At this Dialogue Table we talk about colonialism and slavery in the Moluccas and how they continue to work through the present – the themes at the heart of Museum Maluku's exhibition RE:CAST – Reflecting on slavery and colonialism in Maluku. The conversation is led by trauma therapist and trainer Jessica Apon. Visual storyteller Joao Loupatty and writer Aca Siwabessy Stoffels contribute artistic interventions. We close the afternoon with a shared meal. Over delicious saté and pisang goreng there is room to carry on talking and exchanging thoughts in an informal setting.
Carrying on the conversation after RE:CAST
Museum Maluku's exhibition RE:CAST – Reflecting on slavery and colonialism in Maluku was on view at Museum Sophiahof until January 2025. In it, the artists Esmée Pattipeilohy, Kai Maipauw, Joao Loupatty, Jerrold Saija and Finn Maätita explored the deep and lasting impact of slavery and colonialism in the Moluccas and beyond. The exhibition has now closed, but the conversation continues. During RE:CAST – The conversation we explore together how this past still works through the present – personally as well as socially.

About the speakers
Jessica Apon
The afternoon is guided by Jessica Apon, a trauma therapist and trainer with Indo and Moluccan roots. As a member of the third generation she works with intergenerational trauma and family constellations. At Stichting Pelita she works on professional development and gives training sessions and lectures aimed at communities with a history of forced migration. Her approach takes account of context and collective trauma, and creates a safe space for dialogue.
Joao Loupatty
Joao Loupatty is a multidisciplinary visual storyteller and teacher specialising in design, ethics and technology, and one of the artists who exhibited in RE:CAST. In his installation Current Futures he combined objects from the Museum Maluku collection with AI-generated images. At the Dialogue Table he shares his creative process and explores the question: what futures can we imagine outside the frame of colonialism?
Aca Siwabessy Stoffels
Aca Siwabessy Stoffels is a mother and a writer. She believes that peace with yourself leads to more peace in the world. Since 2014 she has been writing and blogging on themes such as taboos, shame, trauma and transformation. Her first book PADEDE came out in 2024, inviting readers to explore vulnerability. At RE:CAST – The conversation, Aca will read from PADEDE.
