5 June – Cinema Maluku On Tour: Salam Sarane

A one-off film screening at Museum Sophiahof with a post-screening talk! Museum Maluku, Cinema Rialto and Cinema De Vlugt invite you to a special evening around the documentary Salam Sarane, as part of the Cinema Maluku On Tour programme. The screening takes place on Thursday 5 June at Museum Sophiahof in The Hague.
Directors Gerano Hatumena and Yasser Ishraqi see it as their mission to promote cultural tolerance and mutual respect. In this documentary, filmed in the Moluccas and partly crowdfunded, they show how that mission takes shape in everyday life: through creativity and sport.
Unlike the rest of predominantly Muslim Indonesia, the Moluccas are home mainly to Christians. But Muslims have always lived there too, and the two religious groups long lived side by side in good harmony. Hatumena and Ishraqi organise a three-day indoor football tournament for local young people. Not only are they convinced that sport brings people together, they also see it as an ideal way to encourage cultural exchange and social engagement.
The screening of Salam Sarane is followed by a Q&A with the makers, Gerano Hatumena and Yasser Ishraqi.
