7 June – Pandangan Maluku The Hague: Bisikan Sunyi (Silent Whisper)

On Saturday 7 June 2025, Totaal Moluks presents, in collaboration with Museum Maluku: Pandangan Maluku, a film evening at Museum Maluku centred on local Moluccan voices and perspectives. With short films by Moluccan makers, among them the new short film Bisikan Sunyi by Geraldy Laimera, this series looks at themes such as identity, spirituality, connection with nature and the passing on of memory. The evening marks not only the premiere of Bisikan Sunyi, but also a return to a special place: Museum Maluku, where Geraldy's very first film Sodara seng sedarah was screened in the Netherlands in 2023.
Pandangan Maluku: the gaze of Maluku
Totaal Moluks presents Pandangan Maluku. An evening in which the Moluccas are not looked at from the outside, but from within. Stories told by local Moluccan makers themselves, in their own words and rhythms, with deep-rooted connections to culture, spirituality and nature.

The films
Familio** (Rocky Tahapary, 2024)** | Erika, marked for years by the bullying she suffered as a child, returns as a woman with a dark mission. ***Beta deng Salawaku* (Geraldy Laimera, 2023) | Beta deng Salawaku (My Salawaku and I) follows the story of Maku, torn between his passion for Tjakalele and his father's expectations. 20 min, Ambonese Malay, Dutch subtitles
***Bisikan Sunyi* (premiere – Geraldy Laimera, 2025) | Bisikan Sunyi is a mystical thriller about four young people in a forest in Maluku. Their search for a rare bird turns into a confrontation when hidden motives and the revenge of the spirit Nunusaku come together. The film warns against the exploitation of nature and brings Moluccan mythology to life.
After the films we talk about the future and the importance of locally made Moluccan films: how can stories be told from within? What does it take for an independent film culture to flourish in Maluku? And what makes films in Moluccan languages so unique?
