Multidisciplinary duo show ‘ONS VERHAAL’
On Sunday 7 May 2023, saxophonist Nicky Manuputty and guitarist Tasilo Pieck share their story in a remarkable way in the multidisciplinary duo show 'ONS VERHAAL' at Museum Sophiahof. At the heart of the show are the Moluccan background of both musicians and their love of music. A mix of documentary interviews, live music and book readings passes in review.
About the duo show
The multidisciplinary duo show ONS VERHAAL is an intimate voyage of discovery into the meaning and value of music. For the first time Nicky Manuputty shares his personal story with a large audience. His album My Story (2012) fits perfectly with the autobiographical novel by Tasilo Pieck: En toen was het stil. The music by both musicians comes from far away, carries a deep emotional charge and may even touch your heart. An inspiring performance that you as a visitor can identify with and that connects people; music is universal.
About Nicky Manuputty
A saxophonist of international standing who reached the very top in Indonesia. That did not happen without a struggle, however. Leaving behind life in the former concentration camp 'Kamp Vught' and off to Jakarta on the off-chance. In the Netherlands Nicky had already worked with the successful singer Do, among others, and was appearing more and more on the radar of the Dutch music business. What possessed him to give all this up?
About Tasilo Pieck
Tasilo Pieck grew up in the Moluccan neighbourhood and in Venlo-Zuid as the eldest son in a family of four. He discovered guitar playing early on and his talent did not go unnoticed. There was no room for talking or expressing emotions. His sensitivity found only one outlet, and that was music. Sadly that was not enough. An identity crisis and a deep inner struggle followed.
