Museum Night The Hague 2023
On Saturday 7 October 2023, between 20:00 and 01:00, all kinds of activities are organised in various museums in The Hague. Museum Sophiahof, Museum Maluku, the Indisch Herinneringscentrum and Stichting Pelita are once again shaping Museum Night The Hague this year with an extensive programme. The night comes alive in the museum, complete with a mini food truck festival, light artworks, a night-time tour of ONS LAND, a silent disco and a workshop in which we create a large wall hanging with all our visitors.
Silent disco
The Silent Disco is back at Museum Night The Hague, and guess what? We are going all out with an upgrade: not one but two DJ booths! Museum Maluku hosts one of the booths and, especially for this night, we have invited talented female DJs with Moluccan roots to let their beats rip.
The Indisch Herinneringscentrum, Stichting Pelita and Museum Sophiahof together take care of the other booth of great DJs. The Sophiazaal is transformed into an epic dance club where the moves go on until 01:00. And thirsty after all that dancing? The bartenders of Barak '51 are back again this year and will pour you the tastiest cocktails. Put on those wireless headphones and get ready for a night of dancing you will not soon forget. Tune in!
Night-time tour of ONS LAND
Get ready for a remarkable night-time voyage of discovery with our curator Huib Akihary. Tonight he leads you through the halls of the exhibition ONS LAND, where Dutch colonial history comes to life. Dive into the depths with Huib and unravel the complex and sometimes painful layers of our history. How does this history still work through the present? The tour starts at 23:00, be there!
Mini food truck festival
Treat your taste buds and enjoy the finest dishes under the stars. Various food trucks pull up in the museum car park, turning it into an open-air restaurant. From street food to culinary highlights: (re)discover the flavours of Indonesia and Melanesia.
Stitching (family) history
Discover your family history in textile with Malou Sumah! Especially for this evening the Indisch Herinneringscentrum has invited visual artist Malou Sumah. With a passion for heritage studies and her Moluccan roots, she leads this textile workshop between 20:00 and 23:00. Together we create a wall hanging that embraces the diverse stories of the Indonesian archipelago. The materials are ready and waiting. Come by and let us work on this unique artwork together.
Light artworks by Moederland Collectief
Both in the outdoor area of Museum Sophiahof and in the Silent Disco hall you can be inspired by spectacular light artworks by various artists of the Moederland collective. In a 'dialogue' and from a new perspective (with existing and new work), the artists show how their identity as visual artists relates to their family history in the Dutch East Indies, the colonial past and migration.
