On Saturday 11 December 2021 at 20:00 the online launch takes place of the book Toma Terus (Wim Manuhutu, Glenda Pattipeilohy and Henry Timisela), produced together with the publisher Walburg Pers. Because of the current Covid-19 measures the book launch is streamed live on the museum's Instagram Live channel, to be found via @museummaluku.
Programme The book launch is presented by museum director Henry Timisela and Glenda Pattipeilohy, who both edited Toma Terus. The programme includes contributions from Djérimo Holle and Ernestine Comvalius. Historian Joaniek Vreeswijk has been invited to talk about what it was like for her to grow up in the 1990s and 2000s as a third-generation Moluccan woman in the Netherlands. She also talks about what she considers important to convey with her contribution to the book, which she wrote together with her mother Jeanny Vreeswijk-Manusiwa. Museum director and curator Zippora Elders and media scholar Levi Matulessy talk about their view of the image of the Moluccan community and diaspora in the art world and in the media.

Content: Toma Terus Between 21 March and 21 June 1951, exactly seventy years ago this year, a group of more than 12,500 Moluccan men, women and children arrived in the Netherlands. On both the Moluccan and the Dutch side everyone assumed it would be a temporary stay. By now we are several generations further on. According to Statistics Netherlands the Moluccan community now numbers 70,000 people, and there is a fourth and even a fifth generation of young people with a Moluccan background. Over the past seventy years a good deal has been written about Moluccans, but in the anthology Toma terus ('ever forward') Moluccans speak for themselves. Toma terus is not an all-encompassing, factual history of the Moluccan community, but a creative reflection in words and images that at the same time looks to the future.
