Rasa Festival | 14 to 22 September
Together with Museum Sophiahof we kick off the new cultural season with the first edition of the 9-day Rasa Festival! From 14 to 22 September 2024, enjoy film screenings, performances, exhibitions, workshops and talks. For nine days the Sophiazaal offers a richly filled programme, created together with the Indisch Herinneringscentrum, Stichting Pelita and Museum Sophiahof. At the weekend the outdoor area turns into a lively pasar with various stalls and music. Learn, experience and enjoy!
Practical information
A day ticket for the Rasa Festival costs €5. It gives you access to the grounds of Museum Sophiahof and to all the programme items in the garden. For the other programme items you need an extra ticket of €7.50. A visit to the exhibition ONS LAND costs €5. See the Museum Maluku programme below and book your tickets!

Saturday 14 September
13.00-17.00 | Live Jam Session: Gezellig Gezellig! | The Sophiazaal gets truly gezellig with the Moluccan house band made up of top musicians Robert Liwier (drums), Elkana van Motman (bass), Dylano Blok-Umarella (keys), Ray Pical (guitar) and Karl Kiriwenno (guitar). And… you can even sing a song with them! Send an email to nusaloudness@gmail.com with your name, age, what you would like to do and which song(s) (max. 2) you would like to perform. Be quick and claim your moment to shine at the Rasa Festival.**
Sunday 15 September
19.30-20.30 | Film screening: Lagu Lagu | The documentary Lagu Lagu shows how the Moluccan jazz and pop singer Jessica Manuputty made a record of authentic Moluccan music during the commemorative year 2021. These traditional Moluccan songs, 'lagu lagu', are about homesickness. Homesickness for the Moluccas and for Ambon in particular. Jessica works hard to make the music sound traditional, but also wants to add her own ideas and those of her musicians. In this way she makes a unique record with producer Jett Rebel.**

Wednesday 18 September
20.00 | Lecture | Aone van Engelenhoven, lecturer in South-East Asian Linguistics at Leiden University, gives a lecture about language. Among other things he will speak about the development of Moluccan languages in the diaspora and in the Moluccas themselves.**
Thursday 19 September
17.30 | Let's start Unboxing! | Experience a unique live recording of Museum Maluku's new vodcast about intangible Moluccan heritage: Unboxing. Meet the makers, presenters, experts and participants of this vodcast, which will be launched later this year. What does intangible Moluccan heritage mean? What inspired them to make this vodcast? What do they hope to achieve by unpacking boxes? Director Henry Timisela, presenter Gerlov van Engelenhoven, producer Yanise Zijlstra and the regular crew of Museum Maluku volunteers talk about it together. Listen in and experience how stories, memories and traditions come to life!**
Unboxing – Uitgepakte Verhalen is a vodcast in which generations from Moluccan communities come together to open boxes and share their stories, rituals and traditions. The vodcast celebrates Moluccan intangible heritage and its diversity and dynamism. The vodcast is produced by Museum Maluku with support from the Vfonds. Do not miss it!

Pop-up exhibition Suzette Huwae | Take a look at Suzette Huwae's pop-up exhibition! Suzette Huwae's work focuses on women, with a special focus on strong and powerful women. She aims to show their beauty through vivid colours, with attention to every detail of their face or body. Her paintings are marked by bold, expressive brushstrokes, splashes and drips of paint. These elements emphasise the beauty of women, combining sparkle with a certain rawness in their presence.**

Seize the last chance to visit the exhibition MALUKU 2.0! Until 22 September, Museum Maluku presents this striking video installation by film director, screenwriter and editor Mano Som. The installation pays tribute to two centuries-old traditional Moluccan dance forms, the menari and the cakalele, and gives them a contemporary twist.
