Share your story in our new vodcast Unboxing!
Museum Maluku is looking for your story! For our new vodcast *Unboxing we are travelling the whole country in search of Moluccan stories, memories and anecdotes. Is your family's attic full of boxes of objects to do with papeda, PVC transverse flutes, dowries, the piring natzar, bomber jackets or other Moluccan heritage, and can you tell us all about them? Let us know!*
About *Unboxing We will soon start recording our new vodcast Unboxing. In this series we are making 5 episodes on the subject of diverse intangible Moluccan heritage. Moluccans of different generations will unpack a box together containing a remarkable object. During the unpacking, or the unboxing, stories are told that we capture on film and in audio. The series shines a light on the lesser-known stories of Moluccan communities in the Netherlands.
What is intangible heritage? Intangible heritage consists of expressions that communities cherish as part of their identity and history. This intangible heritage changes continuously along with society and is passed on from generation to generation. Slurping papeda, for instance, has been designated official intangible heritage by the Dutch Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The episodes will cover five examples of intangible Moluccan heritage:
Slurping papeda (eating customs)
The traditions around the dowry (marriage)
Playing transverse flutes made of PVC (music)
Wearing bomber jackets (an expression of identity)
The symbolism of the piring natzar (tradition and faith)
