Finissage ‘Uitgepakt – Van kist naar kast

Museum Maluku warmly invites you to the finissage of the striking exhibition 'Uitgepakt – Van kist naar kast' (Unpacked – From chest to cupboard). On Thursday 8 February 2024 we close the exhibition in style with an engaging programme and a special evening opening of the museum.
A remarkable piece of history With 'Uitgepakt – Van kist naar kast' you dive into the history of the Moluccan communities in the Netherlands. This unique exhibition sheds light on the arrival of Moluccans in 1951 and their early years in barrack camps. A reconstructed barrack room shows authentic furniture, household items and personal possessions from those first years, offering a striking glimpse of the cramped living space. Through an installation of original suitcases and army chests, the audio project 'Currents' by artist and researcher Finn Maätita, and more than 200 objects from the museum collection, you discover the story of solidarity, perseverance, community spirit, resilience and resistance within the Moluccan community at that time.
Programme Director Henry Timisela opens the evening with a warm word of welcome. Behind the scenes a great deal of work is going into the inventory and assessment of the entire museum collection, on which curator Huib Akihary will give an update. After the programme you have the chance to visit 'Uitgepakt – Van kist naar kast' during the special evening opening. Expect spoken word, live music, and the chance to see one another again.
