IF YOU LIKE DOING SOMETHING, DON'T BE AFRAID. JUST DO IT!

I am the great-granddaughter of Hanoch Luhulima and Omi Luhulima-Tahamata. Our village of origin is Ihamahu on the island of Saparua.

I've been dancing since I was four. As a small child I discovered how much I loved dancing. And I danced often. At every opportunity that came along, I showed the family my dance skills. My mother Audrey encouraged me greatly in this. When it became more serious, my parents always supported me. That's pretty cool.

In 2018 I performed on the main stage of the Kwaku Summer Festival in Amsterdam during Moluccan Day. In 2019, with Team Goat, I became the winner of the first Dutch professional hip-hop battle, the Dutch Dance League in Rotterdam. At that time I was the youngest of all the participants. That was really cool! I also took part in the video by Richie Haley, which came out recently in February 2020. I am a member of the Urban School of Dance Arts in Maastricht, which is also where the well-known dance crew Oxygen comes from.

Jaïra Joy Luhulima dances both solo and with a group or “crew”. She has taken part in a great many competitions at home and abroad, and has also won many of them. The list is long: Dutch Champion, winner of the Dutch Open, 2x winner of Jam de la Fem. With her dance crew Oxygen she has even won World of Dance multiple times, reached the Top 3 of Time to Dance (RTL4), and won Break a Leg and HiphopKingz.
