Commuting between S10 and P23
A cryptic title for a blog, don't you think? In our offices we have recently been using these abbreviations for the 2 locations of Museum Maluku. S10 refers to Sophialaan 10 in The Hague, the site of Museum Sophiahof, where Museum Maluku has its office and where the exhibition ONS LAND can be visited. P23 refers to the address of the new location in Rotterdam. Since the end of August we have been renting a space of around 100 m2 there in a former factory complex in Rotterdam-Zuid.
Shelving & archive boxes
It took us a long time to find a suitable and affordable location like P23. The space will be used as a working depot, or archive space, for the archive material from our collection, which will be assessed and prepared for digitisation here. Preparing for digitisation means that archive items are freed of paper clips, rubber bands and plastic sleeves, that folds are smoothed out and any tears repaired.
Over the past month P23 has been cleaned and furniture has been chosen: chairs, work tables, cupboards and archive shelving. On Friday 21 October the archive shelving was delivered: 36 metres of it. Each unit with 7 shelves, which will provide room for almost 260 metres of archive material, or close to 1,600 archive boxes. Does P23 now provide room for the whole archive of our museum? No: the complete archive comprises around 2,600 archive boxes stored in Oegstgeest and Alblasserdam. A small part is at S10. The archive boxes in Oegstgeest will be brought to P23 over the coming weeks. The archive material in Alblasserdam will move to Rotterdam in phases for assessment.

Volunteers
Museum Maluku cannot do without volunteers willing to help us with the many tasks: setting up the space, transporting the collection from storage to P23 and preparing the archive material for digitisation. Would you like to help? Sign up via wordvrijwilliger@museum-maluku.nl.
