Update Project Wyldemerck
On Saturday 14 May 2022 the kick-off meeting of Project Wyldemerck took place at Museum Sophiahof. More than six months have now passed. The project has made a name for itself within archaeological circles in the Netherlands and is increasingly carried by the former residents of the Wyldemerck camp.
Former residents organise a gathering in Waalwijk
After receiving the Grote Archeologie Prijs (20 October) and celebrating this extensively at Museum Sophiahof (5 November), on 26 November the former residents organised a gathering of their own in Waalwijk. The aim of the day was to collect and record the stories about the Wyldemerck camp. Idja and Aboe Marasabessy, Djannah Ollong and Shima Pattisuhasiwa took the initiative to organise the day. No fewer than seventy people had signed up. With the help of volunteers the day in Waalwijk was a success. Read an extensive report about the gathering here (scroll down a little to read the report).
Project Wyldemerck x ArcheoHotspots.nl
The archaeology project has not gone unnoticed in archaeological circles in the Netherlands. Not for nothing did Project Wyldemerck win the Grote Archeologie Prijs 2022. Archaeologists Marjolijn Kok and Jobbe Wijnen were invited by ArcheoHotspots.nl to tell more about the project in ‘De participatie voorbij’. Watch the episode below or click here.

Where needed, ArcheoHotspots.nl helps organisations set up an ArcheoHotspot, whether temporary or not, and supports organisations with practical assistance, materials and with marketing and communication.
Conversation with the State Secretary for Culture and Media
On the morning of Wednesday 21 December, curator Huib Akihary, on behalf of Museum Maluku, together with the initiators Marjolein Kok and Jobbe Wijnen of Project Wyldemerck, will meet State Secretary for Culture and Media Uslu. They will hand her the Faro implementation programme and answer a number of questions about the archaeology project.
The project ‘Wyldemerck, searching together for barracks in the woods’ is a collaboration between Moluks Erfgoed, Museum Maluku, Stichting Vrienden van BOEi (lead partner), Staatsbosbeheer, the municipality of De Fryske Marren and the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands.
